Just trying out HDR. No need to comment unless you can help me work out what I've been doing wrong! I've used the Merge to photoshop pro in CS5. Could it be that I didn't have the camera set to bracketing and instead I just changed the exposures (and perhaps the focus) myself?

@jawere Thanks Justin. I haven't tried another one as this has happened both times I tried. I think it might have to do with my photoshop version. Perhaps I need a plug in or something?!
