Rainbow Bee eater

He perched on branches, road signs and then posed on the ground right in front of me. I'm loving the colourful wildlife here. My bucket list is getting longer not shorter but my knowledge of Australian birdlife is growing - thanks Google.
How beautiful and unique

One of the most beautiful Australian birds ( in my humble opinion) Their tails are just amazing. He may have been checking out the area for a nesting site - they dig a tunnel in the sand and form a nest at the end of it. Unfortunately this means they are easy prey for dogs and cats. I always appreciated your bird photos before - but seeing what you are catching here , and knowing how these birds behave, is just leaving me in awe!!! So good.

I just had another look at his tail - he doesn't appear to have the 2 very long tail feathers - about twice the length of the others and beautifully graceful? Most noticeable when they fly?

@robz I have another photo I will put up but yes he only has quite short tail feathers - maybe its a female? Thank you so much for your comments. I am loving the wildlife here.

Hi Liana I am your get pushed partner this week - how do you feel about playing with longer exposures? I had a go with it last week and although I still need a lot of practice and knowledge it was fun and did teach me some things I didn't know.
