Koalas sleep for up to 22 hours a day.
This is because eucalyptus leaves are incredibly low in calories. They have to eat a large amount, then sleep to digest. Their gastrointestinal tract is made up mostly of a really, really long caecum (that's our appendix) to digest those tough, dry leaves at all. No wonder most of my photos are of them sleeping ;)
Oh, I like this so much! A comfortable sleeping koala, in the sun light, with the leaves and bright blue sky! (I thought of Thanksgiving dinner, too, when you need a nap after you eat an enormous meal)
