Racee seems likely to also have a joey in pouch again. Thank you for all those lovely comments yesterday, the support of words like that means the world. Some great questions too, thanks!
I so enjoy your Koala photos. There is within me the feeling of looking at living kindness, of ancient wisdom and beauty of the spirit; the same feeling I get seeing or being near dolphins, our prairie antelope, elephants and hearing whale songs.
Are Koalas gentle as the look? Are they intelligent-they sure kook wise. do they recognize you and know you and your camera are not a threat?
Two joeys on the way perhaps... wonderful news. Do they mate in the trees or on the ground? And if they mate in the trees, who is responsible for holding on?!
@vignouse koala breeding is not for the faint-hearted that's for sure. They are arboreal, so definitely mating happens in the trees. The female attempts to fight the male off all the way through, and it's only a male that can successfully make it happen that she considers worthy of siring her young. They both hold on but it is pretty wild and loud - it is the one time you realise they truly are wild animals as mostly we see them asleep during the day.
In fact the females are, like cats, induced ovulators which means the wilder the mating, the more chance of ovulation happening as a result, and therefore a joey.
I believe it is the original meaning of 50 shades of grey ..... 😱
