101 life story here https://youtu.be/80rZ7lqJxDk
It has taken me some days to be able to post this. So many of you were concerned with the test results on Krissy, where has Mist gone? She came back on Friday and I'm seriously sad to say that she was very ill. I caught her and took her to the vet where we carefully checked her by ultrasound. Sadly, the only kind choice was to give her a peaceful farewell.
Mist was an incredible 12 years old (we age a koala by their teeth), and this is no mean feat in the wild so I am actually celebrating that providing lots of quality habitat has allowed her to live such a great long life at all. Her legacy will live on for many years as some of you know she is the star of the first of a series of children's books. She will continue to educate many around the world for years and years to come.
Fly free Mist, see you at the bridge.
PS Krissy continues to do very well and we are now only waiting on test results to be sure he is cleared and he will hopefully be home within the week.
Thank you all for the lovely support both to me, and for learning to care for these amazing koalas and share in their lives. It is such a privilege.
Ooh , so very sad to hear , and I am thinking of you at this sad time So hard to find such a beautiful old lady at a point of no return , and the most difficult but kindest deed was to let her go . Take care xx
This is the news I've been fearing but hoping wouldn't come. There is though another upside to this in addition to the one you mention... she came 'home' to die which speaks volumes for the habitat you've created - a habitat in which Mist founded a dynasty... Vale indeed.
@vignouse that's a very good point, thank you so much. we have all had this niggling at the back of our minds @cjwhite@Dawn@yorkshirekiwi@teriyakih thank you so much @beryl thank you Beryl, indeed the kindest
What a sweet way to hold her paw. I am so sorry for the loss of Mist. Though I didn’t know her, I feel sadness for the loss of any animal’s life. Loss doesn’t come easy but you have been able to focus on her legacy and positive contribution to the cause. Fav.
It is so sad but as you say Mist lived a full life to 12 years. Thanks for being there for these very special creatures and for your children books to educate. Makes your image very poignant....and personal touch.
Your heartfelt dedication for Mist, who has had a remarkably long life, makes me feel that you share so much of your life with us. Your approach enables and encourages us all to share our concerns, comfort one another when appropriate and recognise how supportive this community is and can be. We never walk alone on 365. Look forward to Krissy's imminent return...
I am so sorry. I agree completely with Frida and Margo- thank you for all you do for the koalas. I am glad she found her way back to you at the end and that you were able to care for her.
I am not sure I can add to all the above comments- I didn’t know Mist but I can just see the love between you two in this photograph- so amazing she came home where she knew she was well loved and cared for - prayers for you
Im so sad to hear this ... but what an amazing life story and continuing influence for good. Well done for your part in her successful long life. Here's to the many happy memories
@cjwhite @Dawn @yorkshirekiwi @teriyakih thank you so much
