Classic - you can see joey's head dangling from the pouch. Joey season is open!
Joey is now papping at this stage and has probably fallen asleep after eating pap in this position. Pap is a substance mums produce from in the caecum (our appendix). Joey pops their head out of the pouch and stimulates her to secrete this porridge-like stuff. This puts the bacteria into joey's digestive tract allowing joey to transition from the milk it has been drinking exclusively for the past 6 months, to being ready to eat leaves in the next days ahead.

Aaw ! such a lovely peep show seeing the little joey for the first time - thanks for the interesting info on their weaning period "pap" is aa great sounding word - I never knew its meaning before ! A lovely capture of mum and joey
