Phoenix is growing up by koalagardens

Phoenix is growing up

I hadn't seen Phoenix in quite a few weeks, but suddenly she has been back several times in the past week. So good to see her and she is looking healthy, and packing on size! I'd say she is around 4 kg now. She is Racee's joey from last year, so around 21 or so months old.
It would suit me well if she stays in the area. She is too young to mate this year, so she will hopefully enjoy her free teenage year!
Thank you for the awesome questions and comments on my photos.
Looking good - I wonder if your constant presence is a factor in whether they stay/return?

@vignouse I think the other koalas in the colony and the pressures placed on food and hierarchy have far more bearing. All those young males that were flooding through during July and Aug really threw the whole colony out of whack.
I also wonder if losing the matriarch (Mist) late last year has had anything to do with changes in patterns of behaviour this year.
So many questions go around my head :)

@sdutoit many people living their whole life in Australia never see a koala, so you are quite right. I am regenerating their habitat on my property and these are wild koalas that come and go from the property as they wish :) I'm so very lucky!

@kchuk yes, but I'm wondering how long this will take as Stevie is so young, and Racee only a bit older. I haven't seen Maxine in nearly 2 months. Mist has left a big hole I think.

Don't feel bad- apparently I was not following you either!! So that is remedied as well.

Your little koala corner of the world is a busy place! I love all the different nuances in character that you bring out in the stories of your koalas. Another cute shot here!
