OK I promised the story today. This is the other koala in the same lemon tree. You didn't know there were two in the tree!
This is Phoenix. If you have followed me a while you may remember her. The koala yesterday is her daughter Luna who is around 11 months old now.
For an unknown reason they wandered into a chicken pen, and the property owner (my neighbour) did not realise it when she closed the chickens in during the late afternoon... until a little later when she heard the chickens making a lot of fuss when they found a koala mum and daughter who now wanted out.
So I was called in with another rescuer, to find they had climbed into the only tree in the pen, which was a thorny lemon tree.
Not a fun place to get koalas out of, and yes hands were bitten, arms were scratched, and I had many troubles with the net I was trying to assist with.
But the good news is they have had a full health check and passed with flying colours and are now back here this afternoon. Tomorrow I will show more of the story of their release here.
I'm terribly relieved as this is her first joey, and that means these 2 have the potential to produce close to 10 koalas each during their lifetime, so they represent 20 potential koalas. Let's hope they stay wild and free and out of chicken pens!
Oh dear, what a spot of bother they got themselves into! Good thing the chickens made a fuss to alert the property owner...and well done to you for rescuing them out of their predicament
Oh my! That's quite a tale!! But you know, Eucalyptus and lemon do make a nice combination...haha! So glad to know Phoenix and Luna have returned to a better place! So good to see Phoenix again too. Nice shot!
How wonderful to have Phoenix & Luna at KG. those poor chickens had a surprise...
