There were actually 2 males diving into my pond and then preening on this branch. I don't know if they are related, maybe one is a younger one - that flash of blue in the bush is always so eye catching! Thank you for the many comments and awesome questions.
@pyrrhula thank you for that link - I went link wandering with that enjoying so many kingfisher photos and reading more about them. I have now identified 3 different species on my property which I find rather exciting. None with that lovely dark belly like yours has!
