morning hunt by koalagardens

morning hunt

Kookaburras are very territorial and this spot on this tree is where this fella hunts from every morning, even in the rain as was falling when this was taken. Thank you for the awesome comments and questions on my photos.
He blends in so well with his surrounds - love the colours and texture of the trees with their peeling and curling barks!

you can see why his colouring is like this when you see him in his own element

He actually blends in very well with the background. Do kookaburras have any natural enemies around there?

@helstor great question - they are big but larger birds like wedge-tailed eagles and goshawks will predate on them. There are many introduced predators that pick them off however. Fortunately they remain in good numbers and are found around a lot of Australia.
