this is a Pacific Baza - it is a raptor but has a crest on its head which you can just make out. Those eyes are wonderful and I watched it catch a large insect (maybe a cicada) on the wing, eat it then just turned like this to look at me. Quite a large bird and a wonderful moment :)
How nice to find a new bird in the neighbourhood. I expect that with so many bushfires around we are all going to be seeing new birds in our areas.
Up until about 15 years ago we never saw little corellas here in the bay, but after a huge fire on the other side of the bay in Myall Lakes the corellas turned up here and have been here ever since.
