My daughter's stocking, made years ago by yours truly (It was a kit)! It's huge... 2' tall (60cm). It literally took years. I had bought two kits just after I got married (23 years ago) thinking I'd make one for me and one for my hubby. I started the kit one summer when he went to Japan to work. I had nothing to do except attach sequins and stitch. I never finished it and then 8 years later our daughter arrived. I put the last few hours into the project and claimed it hers. The second kit was given away and I bought my son a similar type stocking. I just didn't have a couple hundreds hours to spare. I used to feel a little guilty about that, but I'm over it now!
This is beautiful, but more than that is the story that goes with it! I have learned that we (as a family) giggle and have our best memories over the things that have been failures more so than the perfect moments.
Ha this sounds very familiar .. I bought Xstitch kits when my 1st granddaughter was born.. made one for her but her sisters is still 1/2 done and it the cupboard ( she turned 11 the other day) and the other not even started... perhaps I will do them for the Great Grandies... nice shot..
I know how you feel!! I can sew, but I honestly hate doing it. I made a quilt one time, made out of different colored velveteen material, cut into squares. I worked on it for years, a little at a time, mostly when bored!! My mom came to visit and I had it out and said how much I hated it after I got it together and still needed to put the back on it. She said she would finish it and I said she could have it. She finished it the next day!!! She was a steamtress!! Not fair, but it turned out beautiful!! I should have made one for my Mother-in-law also, but like you, just not enough days in the years, so I bought her one!! I'm over it too! ROFL!! Anyway, your sock is gorgeous and something you will always remember!! FAV!
That's just a whole lot of work right there! Interesting, reading the story behind how it came to be a finished stocking for your daughter. Thanks for sharin'.
Wow, so gorgeous....and, a lot of work, too, but it will be appreciated when they have their own home and pull out all these heirlooms out of their boxes at Christmastime...
