Boat Barge by kwind

Boat Barge

Container barges go by daily and I've seen some amazing sights but today was an original. The entire top of this barge was loaded with boats. I believe they are double sided meaning there's 32 boats on this thing. Wild fires on the mainland have brought crazy smoke haze here making the colour of this very strange!! Here's a similar shot from last year with school buses and no smoke... http://365project.org/kwind/365/2016-05-21
What a contrast to last year! I like your display of both near and far and the sense of size the little boat offers

Well if this had been a Florida photo I would have thought they were moving boats out of hurricane Irma's range to safer ground. Would love to know the story about these boats! Wonderful near and far comparison.

The smoke is thick. The top photo provides some scale. The bottom one looks like something made with legos.

wonderful ...

Well, I guess boats do have to get transported somehow. I never really gave that a thought before. Pretty interesting.

What a nifty shot. Loved the peek back at the school buses too!

Wow quite some load

That sure is one loaded up container ship. The haze looks to be quite thick, especially when you compare it with your shot from last year.

There must be a story somewhere about the boats! Good for you for spotting them on top of this huge container ship which would be far out to sea!
September 7th, 2017
Wow what a load... hope they are well tied down..

What a fantastic sight and so interesting to see your shot from last year! The smoke is really affecting the colour! Looks like the air is thick with it which must be awful! Stay safe!
September 7th, 2017
Wow, it certainly is loaded to the brim! Great shot
September 7th, 2017
That is really amazing, the way they piled the boats on top! Nice to show the size perspective and the close up in one posting.
September 7th, 2017
My goodness, that is huge, and rather precarious!
September 7th, 2017
Lovely collage.
September 7th, 2017
Two lovely shots.
September 7th, 2017
Oops, that's a lot of smoke. Gives the pic a special feel. What a difference with the former boat pic filled with schoolbusses. I hope you can still breathe!
September 7th, 2017
that's amazing kim. love the composition of the top image, and so interesting to see the close-up
September 7th, 2017
I've never thought how they would transfer boats en masse. How interesting to see.
September 7th, 2017
Wow this is amazing. Hope there aren't any gale force winds, those boats would be bobbing about.
September 7th, 2017
Incredible size these things must be. Great to see the scale of it xx
September 7th, 2017
Amazing what a load a tugboat can pull. Two very nice shots.
September 7th, 2017
WOW! That's amazing!
September 7th, 2017
And they look like they are sitting on magic puzzle cubes
September 7th, 2017
So....it's a shipping ship, shipping ships? Sorry, couldn't help myself!
September 7th, 2017
Love the processing.
September 7th, 2017
What an incredible difference that smoke makes in your two shots. Unreal!

Still blows my mind sometimes how big those vessels are! The boats as cargo really gives it some perspective.

Awesome shot

An interesting shot indeed, and I appreciate the two different views.

Sad to think what the smoke represents... the loss of forest and wildlife is a heartbreaking thought. Sorry about your smokey air. cough-cough
September 7th, 2017
Wonderful collage and so interesting. It's amazing it can hold that many boats.
September 7th, 2017
That's different! Great spot and capture
September 7th, 2017
Great capture...I love this kind of shot showing all of the stacked containers.
September 7th, 2017
Very interesting! It's certainly heavily laden. Nice capture!
September 7th, 2017
Brilliant, it looks so strange but love the colour and capture
September 7th, 2017
A super capture, very interesting cargo
September 7th, 2017
How amazing. The water must be very calm or you'd think the boats on the containers would wobble.
September 7th, 2017
Goodness gracious. You'd think the whole lot would fall off.
September 7th, 2017
Quite axsite to see from your house, such a variety of different things going past & that's without the dolfins, wales & pleasure boats!
September 7th, 2017
What is causing the smoke? It looks like it is choking! Great photo, lovely you kept the little, but strong, tug in the top photo
September 7th, 2017
kay
wow, well capture, scary thought the size of it ....
September 7th, 2017
wow! that is some cargo. i suppose it would be difficult to "ship-nap" that one. fabulous!
September 7th, 2017
Great shots. Beautiful atmosphere . This nice shot tells me : I have to get pic.`s of the river again.
September 7th, 2017
The contrast in these two photos is quite something. But I do like this - the atmosphere adds an air of mystery. The container boxes look like some kind of childrens building blocks. Hard to realise it isn't a toy barge.
September 7th, 2017
@30pics4jackiesdiamond The smoke is from wild fires burning in the interior of British Columbia. My house is not in danger.
September 8th, 2017
That must have been quite a sight!
September 9th, 2017
that's pretty cool looking.
September 9th, 2017
What a contrast to the one from last year. And such an intriguing sight!
September 9th, 2017
Great find. Looks really smoky.
