I modified this online map for you MaryBeth @espyetta so you can see where I live in relation to you. I'm on Vancouver Island on the east side in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. We're exactly on the 50th parallel. I live on the water with the ocean in front (no lake). It's been HOT... 30 degrees celsius this past week. So many people seem to think Canada is freezing but where I live it's rather pleasant most of the time. We can get the odd snow storm in the winter but mainly a LOT of rain. We also live in houses, not igloos, like some believe. Ha ha!!
@kwind OMG! Thanks! I had actually looked it up once..to find out what body of water you lived on. And now I know why I had the confusion today! You were speaking in degrees CELCIOUS! Not Farenheit which is what we use down here in the US. So you were not "cold" you were HOT! Duh! I forgot about that! Now this thing would be perfect if you had just drawn me standing there in that PINK state of Georgia! haha Thanks so much, Kim!
Nice map..............you live in a beautiful area.............I've only been as far as Calgary ( my sister lives there) but hope to make it to the coast soon.
@kwind Okay..so you are about 86 there lately! I had to pop on to the handy dandy temp converter online as I was not quite sure how to convert that. That is WARM for up there! I am here in GA in the "Deep South" and we are having a "cold front." It was 64 F this morning which for you would be 17.7777778 degree Celsius! Like all those decimals? hee hee And very low humidity and pretty breezy. and it got up to 84 F at the end of the day...We are usually at 84 and HUMID by 10 am here in July.
@espyetta I figured the Celsius/Fahrenheit thing was messing you up and I thought this map put everything into perspective. I was pretty sure you were in Georgia, but it's hard to remember everybody. It must be SUPER hot down there!! I've been to New York once but no where else on your coastline.
@radiogirl I've never been to Ontario. I did fly over it last summer on our way to Nationals for my daughter's swimming. Some day I'd like to drive across our giant country!
@kwind It HAS been hard to learn everyone's country/home, but I am starting to get it for so many people. I just started Year 4 on here a few weeks ago.... I cannot believe that. It can get very hot here, but this has not been our hottest by any stretch of the imagination. Has been pretty "cool"...I mean, I start school in two weeks, and we have not had our usual run of days at mid 90s and higher day after day after day...I am sure that will be once we get back to school. So miserable! But at least we got AC in our gym now! Before that, the kids could not have PE on the first few weeks of school, and often could not play outside either. The heat, smog, and pollen all combine to make air quality bad for many kids..esp. if the have asthma! So to start school and not have outdoor play or PE for three weeks...awful! I am crossing fingers we don't get a super hot spell!
@espyetta I don't think I'd like your humidity! I hate sweating! It's interesting how school is different everywhere. Our kids go until the very end of June and don't return until the day after Labour Day in the beginning of September. I sure hope you don't get a heatwave!! Ours present heat wave has resulted in no more non essential watering (sprinklers have been turned off), a ban on all burning (no beach fires for us) and even evacuations of some towns further north in BC because of several out of control forest fires.
@kwind So you are in drought too? We had a drought for about 5 -8 years! We could not wash our cars, very limited days/hours to water our lawn (basically at night..so we all got timers to turn on the sprinkler at night), run fountains, etc.. The lake where we have our house dropped 15 feet! We made a comeback, getting lots of rain, about 2 or 3 years ago...our lake is nice and full. yay! The sweating! It is the worst! when I did that meet up with Lisa and Paula (365-ers) in Indiana, it was 92 that day...and so humid. Talk about sweating! We almost passed out!
@espyetta They haven't called it a drought but our reservoirs are getting low and everything is very dry. The watering/fire ban happens every couple of years but usually doesn't last long. We're known for our rain so once we get a bit it will probably be lifted.
@teiko I was born in Victoria. It's BEAUTIFUL!! You'll love it there! Go to Butchart's Gardens if you get a chance. Walk through the Empress Hotel and all along the inner harbour!!
Lovely to see where you live and so beautifully presented too. I would love 30 degrees C right now. we are in the middle of winter in Australia and although the sun is shining and the temperature is about 16 degrees C or 60 degrees F. it is pretty chilly for us.
So interesting! I was lucky enough to visit Vancouver Island a few years ago and was blown away by the Buchart gardens! All the same flowers we have in the UK but much bigger! A wonderful visit!
I stumble for a moment with the Celsius then I remember that most of the world follows this. I live way on the other side of that map in Maine. We both can capture beautiful Coastal scenes.
