My city is known as "The Salmon Capital of the World" and today I believe that claim. We went to the local fish hatchery and saw, what must have been thousands of pink salmon in the river. I could not believe my eyes. You'll probably need to view this large to appreciate it. There were more fish than water. The coolest thing ever. Not the best photo but I just had to share. We are having a record pink salmon return this year. They all stopped at this point because of a blockage thing that the hatchery has installed. They were collecting them and shipping them to other rivers.
I think I like this shot even better! I presume, if this is at a hatchery, that they are farmed salmon? Are they then released to the river? My husband will be very interested in these photos, given how few fish there seem to be in the Scottish rivers this year.
@jamibann These are ocean salmon coming upstream to spawn. There's a hatchery along the way. It works towards managing the ocean species. We do have farmed salmon in the area to but they are in big pens in the middle if the ocean.
Really? Wow, that is impressive. I must show hubby your photos when he comes home tonight. We will want to do one thing - book a holiday to your neck of the woods! @kwind
