I bet you're wondering what I'm on about, well I went into the nearby town of Stroud today where there was a photograph exhibition by a friend from Facebook who I had not actually met until today. Whilst in town I went to a very old area called THE SHAMBLES, see there's my title connection.
There has been a market in one form or another in the “Shambles” for centuries, certainly way before 1600. The original market was primarily used by butchers, as denoted by the very old “butchers blocks” attached to the wall of the buildings, however over the years the market has evolved to become a thriving vibrant mixed indoor and outdoor market offering a variety of goods, stalls include: - Fresh fish, cheese, fruit & vegetables (including organic), garden plants, jewellery, records/tapes/CD's, sweets, clothing, watches/clocks, antiques, bric-a-brac, pies/pasties, models/games and many more interesting items.
Perhaps today has not been a bit of a Shambles after all.
What fun! I just love big outdoor markets. They're so colorful. My very favorite ever was a huge outdoor market somewhere in the Cotswolds almost 30 years ago. The antique majolica vases that I got there still sit on my fireplace mantel and are a lovely reminder of my trip there. Fav
