I was going stir crazy stuck indoors with the terrible weather so decided to do a quick geocache, a photograph and some grocery shopping. The cache was just beside this beautiful old Victorian building which was just right for my capture today.
This is Nailsworth Station, built round 1867 and was the headquarters of the Stonehouse to Nailsworth Railway, which was just 5 to 6 miles long through the valley before joining another main line. It was a very busy place at the turn of the 1900's but passenger services were finally halted in June 1949. Goods trains continued till 1966 before the whole route was pulled up and is now a cycle track.
The wonderful building has been restored as a private house and you can just see the old platform on the left and a lovely archway into what was the waiting rooms. I think I would be CHUFFED to have this as a home.
A lovely capture and interesting history. Glad you were able to get out and about. I'm so happy that our streets are finally cleared I don't mind being at work today!
Good factual comments again too Heather.
