An Autumn Graveyard. by ladymagpie

An Autumn Graveyard.

The weather has been diabolical for days and the wind and rain has increased so much that the Old Severn Bridge has been closed going over to Wales. I wouldn't dare open my garage door as the roof may well lift off with the pressure. For that reason I give you a picture taken a few days ago.

This is the chapel graveyard just along the road from my home. The tree looked beautiful in it's Autumn colour and a great contrast to the hedgerow.

Now I have these strange thoughts all the time and ask you to look closely at the grave bottom center. It must be difficult being on the hillside but they say that graves are dug to a 6 ft depth. My question would be, is that 6 ft at the front or if you had a lazy gravedigger, would it be 6 ft at the back which would leave the deceased's toes sticking out. The mind boggles.

Thank you for all your comments and FAV's, view with the dark surround.
For such a grave scene your thoughts made me smile.

You still have leaves, and a pretty tree it is!

A great point to ponder.

The white object reminders me of a ventilator cap, perhaps a daylight basement?

The tree looks beautiful. This must be a very old part of the graveyard. I hope your buggling mind doesn't disturb your sleep...;-)

I'd want my money back because I bet there is a view to be had from this grave and my sticking up feet are spoiling it as they are now higher than my head. You show beautifully many shades of green here.

Much the same here in Dorset. A wonderful composition.

Being the Magpie Detective of the area, you should be able to dig out the information required about the burials :) Great shot!

Maybe the grave has been dug 6 ft deep straight down and the chap wanted to be buried standing. Gypsy burial. ha ha

Beautiful colors Heather, always enjoy your commentary. Our nasty weather season is about to start here. Its been raining off and on for two days now with a couple more days predicted. while in Ireland a couple of years ago i did enjoy the hedgerows much better than the fences we use here.
