Big Fish take a Battering. by ladymagpie

Big Fish take a Battering.

This may be more of interest to 365 friends away from England, the Fish and Chip shop is a Britain tradition and if your in England you just have to try them out. Back in the early 1960's as a youngster I worked in one to earn some pocket money. My job was out the back working the machines that peeled the potatoes and another that made the chips. I got soaked and we kept the potatoes in an old bath. As well as a few pennies I was also given my supper to talk home with me.

In the old days the fish and chips were wrapped in newspapers and if you wanted you could eat them straight from the paper with lashings of salt and vinegar. Today Health & Safety has put pay to the newspapers and cartons or white paper is used.

I am addicted to my Fish and Chips although I haven't bought any for months, this is my favourite shop and there is nothing better than to drive home in the dark, with the paper unfolded on the passenger seat, dipping in now and then, my mouth is watering as I type but don't tell the police.

I'm sure our other English 365 friends will confirm my thoughts. View with the dark surround and your mouth will be watering too.
We all have our guilty pleasure's Heather!

Looks inviting, Heather. Dutch (fish &) chips are served with a little bit of salt and mayonnaise; no vinegar.

Love fish and chips, but I'm sure that what I have here doesn't compare! Lovely capture and narrative!

Lovely shop front and sign. Love the chips if they're nice and crisp. I usually have a sausage, as chippies don't tend to do fish in breadcrumbs... don't like batter

Interesting store and story.

Interesting tag line for the pies: "Combined with regular exercise Pukka Pies can be enjoyed as part of a healthy and balanced diet."

I love fish and chips. Do they use halibut over there??

@kwind I prefer when they use the usual Cod or Haddock. Don't like that Chinese substitute they might use so always check first.

This is one good thing you Brits have passed on to us Aussies! We have some great fish n' chip shops here too :) Out of interest - I love the shop name - my daughter took me to the local theatre group production called "Big Fish" and it was a terrific play and so well performed by local amateurs. i was extremely impressed :)

Love fish and chips and we have a fabulous shop near us. My favourites are blue grenadier or perch. I hate flake though (which is shark)

What a great English scene! Love it. We had a fish and chips chain of restaurants in America decades ago and I used to really enjoy it . Gone now but this brings back memories!
