Up that lovely lane I found this interesting cottage with lovely stonework and mullioned windows, usually seen on grand houses and mansions.
It wasn't easy to get a front view due to the narrow lane and the fact it was so close to the lane, not forgetting the clumps of horse manure. Not sure how you would park a van or lorry to unload. I did meet the lady owner who was parking her car further down the lane. She told me it was built around 1900 which surprised me as I thought it was older.
Do you notice the 2 metal cross, these are wall ties. At the rear of the building would be similar crosses with a metal bar that goes between them. The bars are unseen indoors as the travel above the ground floor ceilings and under the upstairs floorboards. These are to stop any movement of the outer walls, stopping them from bursting outwards.
Well there's a bit more history for you from my village, and as it's hot today I must get home and put my feet up.
Charming cottage, love the windows. Seems earlier than 1900 especially with the wall ties. I think we call those tighteners and can be tightened if the house starts to lean.
