The weather for the last few days have been horrendous, strong winds and heavy rain. I manager to venture out in the the rain yesterday for the chippy picture, but not been out today, even my Brother has had to postponed his caravan trip down south.
So today we look at one of our old mills again and another section of the Lightpill Mill next to where the Aldi supermarket has been built. Do I get paid for advertising them.
In the last picture of the mill I mentioned that several companies have taken up home in these buildings, including my favourite place Stroud Auctions, well advertised in this capture.
I love all the windows in this building and the brickwork above them, imagine all the noise and work that was going on here for the weavers on their machine and the young children that were employed to clear the loose cotton from under the machines, so dangerous. Impressive building still in use today, thankfully.
Very beautiful building, it would be interesting to find a photo of it back in the day I’m sure it was surrounded by lush gardens, no parking lot or video cameras.
So great this magnificent building is still in use.
Just shows how big the cotton industry was in this country until foreign imports arrived. The same in Lancashire, a big cotton manufacturing area....do you remember Horrocks’s beautiful cotton dresses with their full skirts? I can almost smell the cotton now! Big flowery patterns usually!
Glad your mill is still in use!
