The weather today in the Cotswolds is not nice, very wet and dark; In fact I saw a swan waddling past with an umbrella up. So I've had to go back to that lovely hoverfly and see what else it was doing around the Kaffir flower.
They do hover well and it looks as if it got hold of a nice yellow banana, of course it's one of the stamens, the pollen producing part of the flower. It really didn't seem to land and went from one stamen to the other; you can see why they are such great pollinators.
I'm learning so much here reading about this part of a flower. Did you know that this is a male flower with stamen, whilst a female plant has pistils? Wow doesn't wildlife work in mysterious way, I never thought of flowers being of different sexes.
I think I will look at them in a very different way now and see if some flowers have cheeky smiles (males) whilst other flowers have intelligent grins (females).
I will definitely have an intelligent grin with a hint of a smile hidden underneath.
