I would like you to meet Spike, a lovely looking fellow but his life has been cut short. Not so long ago it was a beautiful yellow flower brightening up my neighbour’s lawn, right in the centre.
It might have been lonely as there wasn’t a like friend near it, but it was coping. Gradually it changed into its mature features with this wonderful spiky beard all over it. It was happy blowing lightly in the breeze ready to send all the baby spikes away to start their lives.
Suddenly along came my brutal big Brother, who stopped and studied the lawn. I walked indoor when I heard a terrible noise coming from next door. I rushed outside to find my big Brother using his petrol mower on the lawn.
I screamed at him, "Where is Spike, what have you done to it", he looked at me asking, “Who Spike”? I explained and he just smiled, Spike went up into the mower. How cruel that was, he could have mowed around him. Oh well let's hope that all the baby spikes escaped into the wind, and just think of all the children who would have liked to have blown them away to live another day.
