With the canal being restored in the lower valleys and out towards the River Severn, we look at the upper parts in this capture that really needs restoration. This is between the village of Chalford and the Sapperton Tunnel, and I think I will be long gone by the time it reaches this area.
On the left you can see one of the rivers that drives the clothe mills in the valleys. Unfortunately on the right is the canal, completely drained of water and overgrown with weeds, bushes and trees. Just think how wonderful the walk along this towpath would be with water on either side.
I have walked the whole route with my Niece and family whilst finding many geocaches on the route, but that was many years ago, and loved every part of it. Mainly if you are walking canals there are no hills to worry about.
A wonderful flat walkway , it would be marvellous if the canal is restored ,to be able to walk along the slow flowing water and perhaps daydream a little !!
This looks like a lovely place to walk but such a shame the canal is so overgrown. It reminds me of the walk along the Brecon and Monmouth canal that I often do with my friend. We both have dodgy knees so it suits us to do a walk that's flat.
It would be wonderful restored….the Lancaster Canal stops at Tewitfield north of Carnforth & it’s over grown exactly like this. Walking beside the canal is always good & flat as you say.
