The Super Pit

The Super Pit at Kalgoorlie, Western Australia was Australia's largest open cut gold mine until 2016. The pit is oblong shaped 3.5 km long, 1.5 km wide and 570 m deep. It produces 28 tonnes of gold per year and employs 550 people on site. It is a 24/7 operation with 12 hour shifts of seven nights on then seven days off and then seven days on followed with seven days off and repeated.
