I noticed on our trip to Axat and Puilaurens on Tuesday that the autumn colours were much more spectacular there, compared to the mountains near home. This photo was taken from a bridge across the river Agly, just outside Rivesaltes, looking inland. The river is dammed upstream, but the reservoir is kept at very low levels in winter to accommodate surges of flood water. That the river was dry is a reflection of the long, hot summer we have experienced this year.
