It was built between 1963 and 1966 and belongs to the Harzwasserwerke. Its purposes are the supply of drinking water, flood protection, water flow regulation and hydroelectric power generation. The weather was nice, and we decided upon a motorbike trip to the Harz Mountains. We had 90 °F, so we only made a very short stop here.
Just a snapshot with the cellphone with a little editing.
@robz Thanks for commenting :) You're absolutely right, after two very hot and dry summers, the water level is indeed low. There is a big spillway (a overflow tower), and most of it was visible. When the dam is filled well, you can see only the tower's railing. Have a nice Sunday
@ninaganci Many thanks for your comment and the ☆, dear Nina :) I wasn't in the Harz Mountains for 18 years or so, but as far as I remember, the dam always had much more water this time of year. But the last two summers were dry and hot by our standards. If there is much water in this dam, they can pump it to another dam, 4,6 km away.
Wish our dams would look the same at the end of summer
