Hens Gone Wild by lauriehiggins

Hens Gone Wild

I discovered today that chickens might even be harder to capture than bees. I'm going back to flowers...

We had a fire/barbecue on our fire pit tonight and my husband convinced me to let our chickens go "free range" for the last hour before dark, "because it would be a great photo." Uh, not so much. I chased six chickens around the back yard trying to capture just one good shot. I got 58 bad ones and the one "eh" one posted here. The thing I actually liked about it is that it really shows the nature of chickens. They always think the other one has it better and watch each other obsessively before pushing each other aside to take over. There might not be any greedier or more jealous animal on earth.

Don't ever invite your children to join you on 365, unless you are completely comfortable being upstaged. My daugher got the money shot on one of the bunnies in our yard that I've been working on for weeks and my son got a better pic of a random (not ours) chicken as he walked to the nearby store with his friend. Gotta love that!
I think this is a pretty great shot of your chickens...your story is still cracking me up! Someone should've captured you chasing chickens!!

Thank you, Paula and Stephanie. The funniest thing is that my son captured the funniest photo of a person chasing a chicken. He and his best friend came across a chicken on the way to the local store where another friend works. Keep in mind these are 15 year old boys. His photo can be seen here: http://365project.org/tommyhiggins/365. I honestly do think it is much better (and more humorous) than mine.

what is with everyone's animal shots!!!! I very rarely see anything of that sort aroung here except an occasional ugly duck that doesn't go for a good picture! This is a good shot though. Can't believe you let them run around free! I'm sure that caused you some stress lol!
