We spent about a half an hour talking to a old time North End resident who has created a shrine to all the Catholic saints. I took alot of photos of it, but there was no way to capture it all. My favorite view was of the top of his shrine.
Aside from the quality of your shots and stories, the thing I like the best about your album is that I can never predict what I'll see next! lol. Awesome shot, great tribute to Pete and to the Saints.
What an eyecatching and interesting shot! Imagine someone going to all this trouble. Like Anne @sunnygreenwood I'm wondering if you had any more contact with your date from yesterday? :-)
@sunnygreenwood Thank you for noticing my eclectic tastes. I'm interested in alot of things, so even I don't know what the next photo will be! I'm pretty sure Pete would be appalled by my gargoyle crush. He wasn't terribly impressed when he found out I'm Methodist, but when he found out my husband's name was Stephen he told us all about Saint Stephen and even showed us pictures of his death.
@Cherrill I'm still obsessing about the gargoyle and considering calling the shop to pay for him and have them hold him for me until I can find 3 hours to drive there and back!
@Cherrill Shipping would probably cost as much as the gargoyle! He's made of concrete and very, very heavy. Part of the reason I didn't buy him when I first saw him was that I didn't want to lug him around Salem. Then my husband didn't want to go back. Silly me for not seizing the moment.
@lorihiro Pete let us inside the gate so we saw the interior hallway, but he gave me the evil eye and said, "No pictures inside." His Sicilian mother started the project more than 30 years ago, and he's been adding to it ever since.
unbelievable! really! Is the Sicilian mother still there, sitting inside in her rocking chair? haha. this is fantastic and amazing and crazy and totally cool. great find. I love your shot of it - the brick, the saints, the flowers, and all crowned with American flag. Only in America!
