Fall foliage is a pretty muted affair on Cape Cod. The leaves on the multitude of oak trees just turn rust colored and the scrub pines don't do anything, so all we get are bits of color here and there. This is about as good as it gets for autumn, but the red and green with slight accents of gold reminded me of another season and holiday in a foreshadowing kind of way.
Thank you so much for all your comments, faves and friendships! I was beyond thrilled to see my sunset on the pop page today. You guys are the best...and you made my day!
This is awesome, Laurie! I understand what you mean about getting good colors from fall. We tend to get just yellow and brown and just splashes of red here and there. Great capture and congrats on PP!
Laurie.. I like the accent color in an otherwise bokeh of green.. we won't have much in the way of colors this year.. this weather is horrendous and the leaves, instead of changing colors, are falling from the soldiers of the earth (trees..lol)... nice shot...
Laurie, You gotta get off the Cape and get to VT in mid October and show the world what Autumn in New England looks like... you are the closest. Your assignment! :) :) :)
@hown Oh Howard, I will be doing exactly that on Columbus Day weekend! My mom and step-dad live in Vermont, so I even have a free place to stay...sweet. I'm just hoping the leaves hold out until then. Irene and subsequent storms might ruin the foliage or make it fall early, which will really make me grumpy. Every year my step-dad and I debate about peak in Vermont. He always warns that Columbus Day is too late and I have the photos to prove him wrong. I hope he isn't right this year. But either way, I will be reporting from Vermont and stealing apples from any wild tree I can find to make batches and batched of applesauce.
love the colours and focus on this, if only your oak leaves changed to this colour too. we have a lot of evergreens so there's pockets of colour with quite a bit staying green. the path is well travelled between cape cod and vermont ... will be lots of colour along the way.
this is so beautiful! love the detail and burst of color. I've been MIA again but I'm trying to poke my head up and participate again. I'm SO glad the fruit fly trap is working! It is a very satisfying endeavor I found. :)
@karens68 It's not sumac, but I'm not sure what it is called. It's an invasive species of some sort that is pretty common. This, the sumac and the poison ivy, just about sums up the foliage on Cape Cod.
yes...it is a holiday treat....lori and i were talking about you at dinner last night...were your ears ringing... :) it was all good...always all good when it comes to you
It´s so nice to see world changing right in front of our eyes. We just got spring here and you are experiencing the beautiful colorful autumn season. Lovely shot!
lovely photo Laurie!
it's a shame you don't see much colour in the fall.
over here everything turns orange/yellow and red
hopefully i'll be able to get photos and show you!
its really nice
I like the framing in your photo. strange how only a few leafs are red!
Yay fall!! I saw my first yellow leaf this morning and did a dance for joy (: The weather just turned from 80 degree yucky humidity to wonderful 60's and 70's last week. Love, love it. This leaf looks like it was dipped in paint
