"Howl" by lauriehiggins

"Howl"

Today there was an Octoberfest celebration in the town of Chatham, which seemed like a perfect photo op. All the town's businesses created pumpkin people and this guy was titled "Howl" and inspired by the Allen Ginsberg poem and Edvard Munch's painting, "The Scream."

This photo is for my cousin Christie (@christiehicks), who loved Octoberfest when she lived in Germany, and who would have been all over this event if she was on the Cape. Come back, come back!
I love it! A pumpkin version of Edvard Munch's "The Scream"!

@melissapike That's it! The pumpkin was titled Howl, and that is a poem by beat poet Allen Ginsberg who has Cape ties, but it is actually a rendition of "The Scream." Thank you for correctly identifying it. I'm going back to edit my caption.

@orangecrush Oktoberfest is the best! We went 2 years in a row when my husband and I lived in Germany 1990-92. We meet a couple who'd left East Germany right after the wall had come down and they were thrilled to meet Americans. Even thouigh they spoke no English at all, and my German is limited, we had a blast for hours talking the best we could. It's funny how much German you think you know after drinking thier massive beer stiens.

@yoshi When my kids were young, I used to decorate to the hilt for Halloween - think fake gravestones in the front yard kind of excess. But I haven't done that in years.
