The Other Sign of Spring by lauriehiggins

The Other Sign of Spring

My husband bought this birdhouse for me at an antique shop for my birthday 16 years ago. It resided in my herb garden for a very long time perched on top of a birch post, which eventually rotted away. Now it rests on a stump at the end of our wood pile and was kind of forgotten. I was so happy to see the chickadees are using it once again.
Yay for chickadees establishing residence! beautiful shot!

I've had three birdhouses hanging on our silver maple tree in the back yard, but birds have never taken to any of them. I'm very jealous.

Looks great! I have a family of sparrows that come back year after year! They have about 3 broods each year! It is literally at the deck between my stairs and back door. It's fun to watch them when sitting on the deck or eating dinner outside!

@ptowncook I remember the exact b-day because a friend got married that day and I was pregnant with my son. Steve and I spend the early evening driving from Dennis to Chatham on Rt. 28, stopping whenever something caught our eye. I saw this birdhous in the garden of a tiny antique shop and fell in love with it.

@bardejov We have a bird feeder and a couple of suet feeders just a few yards away from this bird house. Apparently birds need to be fed even more when they are nesting than during the winter. Maybe if you put out a feeder, they would take up residence. Good luck!

Adorable! We saw a fox last weekend, but I doubt that they will stay because our new neighbors are always outside screaming
