Todays driving took me to Lake Menindee and the day brought me so many photos to try to choose just one for 365, I have 5 types of lizards (which I will look up tomorrow when I am less tired), multiple kites and falcons, kangaroos, great expanses of plains, dry red dirt filled river beds, corrugated sandy roads my poor little car should never have been asked to try, emus, including what could only be a creche, one adult and 20 (yes I counted) adolescent emu chicks, but I decided on this scene.
Sunsets from here are spectacular, I was pretty happy with middle of the day. The lakes had been dry since 2002 but they are now full again. The lake is one of a series of lakes which fill up with the overflow from the Darling River and at capacity they contain more water than Sydney Harbour.
I had planned/considered getting sunset shots today, however, firstly no guarantee of good colour in the sky (turns out there was not a particularly colourful sunset) and secondly I had to drive over 100km back to my accommodation and at dusk is the most dangerous time for wildlife on the road and I didn't want to run the risk, not only wildlife but it is a narrow dangerous road. so I came back to town late afternoon.
Nevertheless I am so tired now, I will have a bath and go to bed and sort through all the photos tomorrow.
I love the photo and all of your stories. The story helps me get a glimpse of what's going on so many areas of our world. Thank you for sharing your world with all of us.
Emu creche! LOL~! That's something I hope to see before I die! :-)
Nice to see plenty of water here. I lived in Broken Hill in 2003 and they were dry as a bone. Really great shot here, Megan!
