I love architecture, when I travel I love to appreciate the architecture of the place, and that appreciation for me is done through the viewfinder of my camera. For the last year or so I have had a passion for nature and wildlife photography but before that it was architecture - the older the better, I have a real passion for ancient sites.
The Islamic architecture of Cairo was a treat, looking back on my photos I have been enjoying the minarets and domes that surrounded me there. I was fortunate in my visit to Cairo, I was shown around by several Australians living and working there and saw a lot of places which are off the usual tourist trails. Back in those days I really didn't know a lot about my camera and had the one lens. I'd love to have the opportunity to return with my additional knowledge and my bag full of lenses. And a better idea on moving to the best place for the shot i envisage.
A colleague told me she hated taking a camera away when travelling as she felt she didn't really see much when she was peering into her camera viewfinder (yes it was the film days, now I suppose it would be peering into an LCD screen).
For me the opposite is true, when I have my camera I am always looking around and seeing beauty everywhere around me, seeing things that would go unnoticed if I wasn't looking for special photos. For me a camera helps me appreciate the world. I'm pretty sure that is the case for many of us doing project 365.
Nice composition, I like the earth tone colors of the minarets. I guess smog is pretty much universal in large metropolitan areas, a pity since a blue sky background would make these structures pop.
This is a fantastic shot, and I agree with you completely. I open my eyes more when I have the camera as I am always looking for something worth photographing.
Wonderful - I keep looking up and up and up the height of that tower! Fabulous shot. (And since doing this project I am definitely more aware of the beautiful sights around me)
colours in this are soft and beautiful! I remember looking at the skyline of Jakarta from the 18th storey of a building, and the towers and minarets were so numerous, and stood out like.....well, like dog's balls in the smog at about the same height as me!
