film February - Aurora Borealis - my earliest SLR photography
I finally installed the software, connected and figured out how to operate my scanner for scanning negatives today and had an attempt at scanning something for film Feb. I know I posted one from this trip last month, but film Feb needed to have something from my first attempt at SLR photography, under the helpful guidance of the photography pro/guide on my trip to Fort McMurray Alberta Canada.
This roll of film was using his Canon EOS5 (or maybe it was a EOS1) 35mm film SLR.Shot on Fuji film ISO800 (not sure of more details than that). It was on bulb setting generally 30-60 seconds and the air temp was about -(minus) 30 deg C it hurt to breathe and was an amazing sight and sound - for those who missed it on my last photo - the northern lights crackle as well as loving a bit like a gauze curtain rippling in the wind.
Beautiful Megan! Did you buy a negative scanner (stand alone) or is it an attachment for your scanner. I have an attachment for my scanner but I haven't had any good results from it.
@bella_ss it is an epson flatbed scanner where you remove the cover inside the lid and has a negative holder you put on the glass, still trying to figure out the software settings
double wow!!! experiencing this amazing nature event is priceless....and capturing it even more! I heard The Aurora Borealis lights are very difficult to photograph. I wasn't even lucky enough to see it the few nights I spent in Lapland last winter.
@lbmcshutter You remove the cover inside the lid? I'll have to see if I can find my instruction book because mine is an epson flatbed with the negative holder also. It looks like yours turned out really good.
I know I doubted it before, but since you posted your first shot, I have seen Fort Mac advertised as a nothern lights photography destination. It was just in a Cdn travel magazine, but still.
@lbmcshutter Thanks Megan! My scanner is so old and Epson doesn't make a driver for 64 bit but I persevered and finally worked it out!! My conclusion is the negative is no better than a print to scan but I do have a lot of old negatives from when I was little so they will be lots of fun to play with. Thanks again!! :)
@bella_ss I brought back a shoebox full of old photos when I was visiting my mum and dad, and found some very old negatives to scan, unfortunately there is also a big pile of disc camera negative discs - don't think I can do much about them or about 40+ APS negative cartridges
good luck with your scanning
@lbmcshutter Everyone kept them in shoe boxes didn't they?! That's a shame about some of your negatives. Depending on how important the photos are, check this out http://scancorner.com.au/aps-scanning
