Effects of the 2019/20 summer bushfires

We were booked into a caravan park in Huskisson for the Australia Day weekend in January 2020. For a few weeks before, we weren't sure whether we were going to be able to go because of the devastating summer bushfires a few weeks before, as there were road closures, caravan park closures, etc etc....but it ended up that we were able to go.

To see the devastating effects of the fires driving to Huskisson was truly shocking & upsetting. When you looked into the distance on either side of the road, you could see for miles, which normally you couldn't because of the thick bushland thats usually there, but with it all gone, you could see things like rock escarpments that you previously didnt even know was there....it was just really eerie and very sad to see everything all black & burnt ☹

This shot was taken between Neriga & Huskisson.
I went to visit my father in Victoria during the fires. The drive from Melbourne to Myrtleford was like this, the smell was awful and the local pub full of tired and dirty firefighters having dinner each night.

So devastating, hope the bushland has returned again now.

Sad to see. I hope that nature is being rejuvenated.

Nature is amazing and has a way of coming back quickly - I like the tones of this photo

We have it here regularly too, heartbreaking to see. Fortunately nature has a way of bouncing back. A beautiful shot albeit a sad one.

A special capture showing the devastation that you have suffered. The capture draws you in by the road. Instant FAV

So sad to see such devastation. Hopefully mother nature has started healing the area by now.

A sad sight

Yes very sad sight. But the good news for me is that I have found out where two towns I had never heard of before are.

I would really be worth going back for a second look now to see the change in the landscape

Always sad to see this

It's so upsetting to see natural areas burnt and scarred like this but it is also amazing to see how nature bounces back when we think there is no hope. It's also good to see these kinds of shots to remember so that carelessness or disrespect subsides. Are you able to return to see if it has regenerated?

I have no doubt that nature will recover, but we may not like how it changes to survive.
