St Mark's was designed in 1848, with the foundation stone being laid in 1850. The church wasn't completed until 1856 due to a shortage of labour, with many heading to the goldfields. St Mark’s is built of sandstone, the interior fittings are cedar. The original roof was wooden shingles, these were replaced with slate shingles in l904. In l930 tiles were used to replace the slate roof.
Sadly the church has been damaged by floods last year, so it is currently under repair with weekly church services being held elsewhere in the town. Work to repair inside the church was due to start in February this year.
@jamibann yes we thought the same thing. There were many that were partially leaning over & others that were completely broken off, which is such a shame as they may not get repaired by the families of those buried there.
