My girlfriend and I went back to Assateague last night to try our hand at star trails if the sky was clear enough. Well it doesn't get any clearer than this. This was one of my first test shots to make sure the focus on stars was okay and get some kind of composition for the shot. You can't see what your hand in front of your face so looking at a dark screen in the camera. . It's pitch dark with light pollution in the far background. Nature Shack, parking lot, tree and water are lite by the stars. Had camera shoot for 1 hr. and ended up with 98 shots. Now to figure out how to combine them and see what I got. Hello you tube.....
@taffy you really need to give it a try. With April's suggestion of the free program StarStaX it was so simple. I had to learn how to use the intervalometer I bought (wrote a little cheat sheet to follow till I can remember), took a test shot to get focus and composition and then set the intervalometer to start taking pictures. I let it go for one hour and then turned the intervalometer off. Loaded pics in lightroom (ended up with 91 pics), did a little edit to one picture and then batch edited the rest to that one. Exported pics as Tiff's into a folder, brought pics into StarStaX and you practically just hit a button and you have your jpeg star trail photo. I bet you can get some awesome ones at the cabin.
