This has been on my photo bucket list since last summer. Rebecca was up for the challenge to find it with me. Thankfully we stopped first to change from shorts to long pants incase of the twilight invasion of the blood sucking little monsters (mosquitos) who just love me. The can of Deep Woods Off was quickly used as we were losing the battle. Some info on this tower.
Tower 3 is 64 feet tall with a view that extends more than 14 miles from the observation deck
Towers were built from 1939 to 1942 to defend Delaware’s coastline in World War II, protecting the entrance to Delaware Bay from German ships
Towers built of concrete to last about 20 years
Towers are 39 to 75 feet tall; walls are 1 foot thick
Towers are 16 feet in diameter
Eight soldiers were assigned to each tower
@rosiekerr they line the ocean side. This one is very close to the road, you can see the electric poles and sits in one of the Delaware State beach access parking lots.
