So sad , this guy was washed up on a newcastle beach yesterday afternoon .
I was in the bush taking photos of yet another waterfall when i got a msg from my bestie staying about the whale .. So of cos the waterfall can wait , washed up whales dont come by every day ..
This has been the second one in 20 years washed up on newcastle beach , the one b4 that was 4 years ago .
They are trying to work out the best way to dispose of it .. Back out to sea or to bury it on the beach ?? Poor thing !!
Was hard to get a good shot with the amount of ppl that was around him . I had to miss the tail out on this shot as there was a couple drinking their coffee near it ..
The smell was really bad and yes ppl was drinking their coffees , others where eating meat pies .. YUKKK how can u eat with that smell lol .
I choose this spot cos look at the size of that big chunk taken out of him .. OUCH !!
Death is unknown as yet , they said it could of died from natural causes but its been dead for a while .
:( I hope thats not the whale from here!
We had a young male who was separated from his pod and injured, than the other week he just disappeared along the coast somewhere :(
Looks like I dont' have to wait until tomorrow (see my earlier post onyour waterfall shot)! Heard on the radio they are going to bury it at the back beach same as they did at Dixon Park about 4 years ago.
I understand the intrigue, but don't think I'd hang out sipping my morning coffee at it's tail. That being said, if it's any consolation I looked at your flickr photos and the one with the couple near the tail was one of my favorites. I was feeling sorry about the dead gull I saw at the beach today so you know how I feel about this amazing animal. Thanks for sharing Brenda.
I saw this on the news, sad :( The one with the couple was a good shot, you should have shouted out if they wouldn't mind drinking their coffee slightly up the beach :)
I hate to sound gross but it really brings to mind that video from the 70's/80's of a township exploding a whale to dispose of it and chunks landing everywhere, including people's cars.
Now that I'm done being gross, this is indeed very sad.
Just read through some of the comments and I see Matt said the same thing I did over on your Flicker photo of the people with the whale. (So, everybody, go take a look...there are some good photos, and the one is exceptional for the scale of it all!)
That is sad, there was a gray whale that washed up on shore on the South Vancouver Island area a couple months ago and I wish I would have gone any taken a picture too. Great capture! Your other pictures really do show the scale.
