Today I was captivated by this beautiful old wooden stairwell and the chain of lights hanging down the middle.
This was taken at Libertys, one of London's oldest and most iconic department stores. The store was founded in 1875 and the current building (where I took this photo) was constructed in 1924.
The magnificent Tudor building was constructed from the timbers of two ships: HMS Impregnable and HMS Hindustan. The frontage at Great Marlborough Street is the same length as the Hindustan.
The wonderful emporium was designed by Edwin T. Hall and his son Edwin S. Hall. They designed the Tudor building at the height of the 1920s fashion for Tudor revival.
@shanne Thanks! Had no idea this was on PP, what a lovely surprise :) I'd also forgotten about the cool inside of Libertys, was pleasantly surprised when I wandered in with my camera :)
Thank you so much for all the great comments! :)
