What Once Was by linnypinny

What Once Was

For decades, Printer's Alley was one of the most entertaining places in Nashville for both locals and tourists. In 1915, 13 publishers and 10 printing offices were located in the Alley, serving 2 newspapers, The Tennessean and The Banner. By the 1940s, nightclubs and fine restaurants had taken it over. Many of the stars of country music got their start by playing in those clubs. In 1998, the owner of one of the most famous nightclubs was murdered during a robbery and the Alley was never the same. Restaurants closed or moved and currently there are only a few remaining clubs. Tourists still visit, but just to walk through its history.
What a great looking place of the one hopping nightlife scene. Love the blues sign. We had a great nightlife place in Orlando that I grew up going to but it sorta fizzled out, too. It was awesome back in the day.

@amandal The blues club is one of the only places still open. Sad that it's now a place you would only walk through before dark! Thanks for stopping by!

An action packed image with lots to study. Shame about the murder and the subsequent death of this area's historic activities.

I believe it's you who was telling me your Christmas tree stays decorated well after December is over. Mine was undecorated just yesterday and I told myself to be sure and ask you if yours was still up yet.

@lyndemc It's still up with opened but not put away presents under it! Talk about being behind! I do think last weekend's company enjoyed seeing it. I don't light it up unless I need it for some photo background. I'll get it into the garage someday before spring (lol) Congrats on getting yours put away!

Fabulous and fun shot, Lin! Great narrative on the history of Printer's Alley.

Pretty shot. It is too bad that the murder destroyed the business in this area. I remember my father talking fondly about this area in Nashville. He took one trip to Nashville and really liked the Nashville scene.

@linnypinny The lights on my tree were still turned on each evening, a lovely warm glow that I'm now missing! I actually caught myself counting the number of months before I could redecorate the Christmas tree!

Looks and sounds like a very interesting place. What happened, and its consequences, are very sad.

What a great capture!! Is this the street the Bluebird Cafe is on? Love the lights and the signs. Looks so festive and fun. Sad history though.
