I'm always a bit heartbroken to see photos without a home. I found this in a box filled with old receipts and newspaper articles at the auction. Was it the estate owner or one of her relatives? Was this the only photo left behind? I walked away, but went back for this capture a few minutes later. I thought at least I could give this little photo a permanent place of honor on 365.
I know what you mean. I love old photos, my partner's brother was recently going to throw out a load of glass negatives (philistine that he is), luckily I agreed to take them in. Going to scan them and post them somewhere.
It is very sad indeed. Glad you decided to capture it and share it with us. I do wonder if there will be people interested in my photographs once I am gone
We have boxes of these from clearing out my mother's house. Most aren't marked, and even if they were, we wouldn't know who they were. It doesn't make me very sad as it the way of all of history. Very few people are remembered for very long. Old photographs will be even more rare in the future as most are never printed. This little girl is a charmer, isn't she?
@bkbinthecity I wonder that same thing...while there are young relatives on my father's side, my mother's side is dwindling down. All the antiques, I think, will be well taken care of by others, but the photos? Probably of no interest to buyers. Thanks for visiting!
@cejaanderson Yes, Jane, printed photos are becoming a thing of the past. Even as much as I love my photos books, I get so behind in printing my captures. My sister took my mom's memory card and printed 300 photos for her for Christmas. It was a really great gift and one she will cherish. for years to come. Thanks for visiting my mystery photo!
A lovely way to honor a sweet image, a child loved and most probably gone. I have the exact frame on a photograph of my dad, at the same age as this child. He would be 92 if we were lucky enough to still have him with us.
At first I thought you were going to say it was you. Good of you for giving this an airing and perhaps one day someone can come back and claim it. FAV for your thoughtfulness.
Good shot with a hidden story. I like the shaft of light. (Not long before he died my dad brought me two very old photo albums. He couldn't identify anybody but my auntie (his younger sister) identified a couple. I found it quite frustrating knowing they were family....)
Sweet gesture in taking a picture of this child's photo. We're all now left wondering this little one's story and how the picture came to be part of an auction.
So thoughtful that you went back and shot this, Lin. It's a great photograph and from all the photos we have (my husband's hobby is geneology; I believe this might be a little boy.). I like the way you shot it - it now has it's place in the sun.
Love this kind of stuff, Epherera I think its called.Things that were not ment to last beyond their usefullness. You have now extended their life , Great find and beautifully pictured..
