For the past three years at this time I have sworn I will never walk the Indianapolis Mini Marathon again. When autumn rolls around, I start to consider it again and end up signing up with prodding from my family members who walk with me. Then February comes and I begin complaining daily about the fact that I was stupid enough to sign up again. I decided to drop out this year, but started feeling guilty and thinking of the others walking without me and the fact that I wouldn’t get the medal and a cool shirt which I paid $50 for with my entry fee. I caved and rolled out of bed in the wee hours of the morning and walked 13.1 miles with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
I had a score to settle from last year when my BIL beat me to the finish line. We had so much fun trying to outdo each other by taking off and running ahead of one another. As we approached the finish line we both took off in a sprint, but I just wasn’t as fast. He graciously stopped right before we crossed the line and let me go first. I was almost too shocked to take those final steps. Thank you, Tom. Like you said yourself, you’re getting soft in your old age.
aww congratulations on doing it. what a fab brother in law you have, letting you cross the line before him makes him a true gent :-) put you feet up and relax now. x
@mrssmith@erikadee Thank you! @sarasdadandmom I wasn’t exactly running, either! Believe it or not I was looking for you. If any of your colleagues mention a woman that was staring at them strangely, it was me. I was scrutinizing every face to see if I could identify you.
Well, the effort for the preparation may be a bit of a mental arm twister, but it'll be worth it when autumn comes and you cross that finishing line again. :)
Congratulations! What a great story! I am laughing because our photos are so similar today! I promise I didn't peek at yours first. I like yours better than mine.
Congratulations, Lisa!! I did one three years ago and swore never again. So far, I've kept my word, but one never knows. I could become inspired. This photo will jog your memory in years to come. Pun definitely intended. ;D
