My husband is painting our loungeroom.
Hence I have had to move all the books out of the bookcase.
What a job.
Lynda & I have been culling them all day.
It's amazing isn't it!
All these books can be on your shelf for years.
You don't get to look at them very often.
Then when you have to cull the numbers, you start to browse through them & realise that you can't get rid of this one or that one & before you know it - All of them are back on the shelves ha! ha!.
Vicious circle isn't it :)
I couldn't agree more with your **every word**! My shelves are loaded, but I have only rare time to peruse any of it... I have a quote I love though, that suits your dilemma: A room without books is like a body without a soul. (Cicero) And please pass that Victoria Book of Days...I'd love to have a look!
I can definitely relate. We have begun the annual inventory in my 29,000 volume library. This is the time of the year we count, organize and weed our entire collection. By weed I mean discard worn, no longer accurate, or rarely circulated books. It is a mammoth undertaking but at the end of the year we are ready for new books and have room for them on the shelves.
I totally know what you mean. When I was moving from my house to a smaller townhouse a few years ago I got rid of a lot of books...very painful experience. I still ended up keeping more than I have room for..they remain in boxes in the spare room closet!
Also, nice to "meet" you, Lois. Thanks for leaving a comment over on my page yesterday.
What a job! Love that picture and glad to see that Lay-Zee and Lay-About have a friend.... they'll have to meet! Thank you for all your lovely comments on Shutterfly.
I've gone from one bookcase to four bookcases! Wow! So, when I became a Bookcrosser, the amount of books became worse... and now, I think I need yet another bookcase - or another room - whichever comes first. :)
And I agree with you John, put them all back... but then, Mum's got all her books from Bookcrossing to fit in the bookcase; so cull we must!
Ahh the more books the better I say! My partner & I have moved about 14 times in about 13 years, and still, we must be pushing close to a thousand books. Once we settle down in the one place I imagine exponential growth of the collection!
