The thistle prairie cone head wildflowers are kind of on their last leg, so to speak. They are in protected "do not mow" areas on our walking trails and as soon as they are all brown and have dropped their seeds for next spring's flowers, they will be mowed down. These were pretty with the sun shining through them.
Beautiful little fuzzy tops! What a great idea to let them go to seed where they stand! I was reading that we need to plant more wildflowers to bring the bees around, and I know Texas leads the crowd doing just that!
Thank you! I had taken a lot of photos of the trail wildflowers, but I was facing away from the sun. These glowed in the sunlight when I turned around!
That's what we need around here - some "Do Not Mow" areas until things have gone to seed. So many places I walk use to have fields full of flowers - but the early brush hogging has really taken its toll - and for no reason that I can see - it's not baled or used for hay or anything. Love the sun through these.
@milaniet@365karly1@littleconnie@nicolecampbell@gaylewood Thank you so much for your comments and favs! To be honest, the clumps of "do not mow" Wildflowers look pretty straggly right now, surrounded by mown grass. But next spring the Wildflower protection will really pay off!
