18 degrees Fahrenheit, oh no!

We are mightily concerned about our neighbor’s palm tree. At our coldest last week our temp was 18 F with a wind chill of 5 F. He did not take any precautions, believing that the tree had lived through freezes before. To our memory, it hasn’t been this cold in quite a few years, so we will just have to see.
Oh my, that does sound pretty cold for where you are. Nice capture and I hope the tree will be okay.

hope that tree held up from the cold attack.

It looks like it probably is in trouble. After all it is a tropical tree. However, it looks like it has been there for a while. So who knows.

Hope the tree survives! The weather sounds pretty balmy to me though, we managed a measly 7C today, but we don’t have lovely palms to preserve! Lol.

Oh that is not looking good, the leaves are pale & limp, sad. I bet you look at it every morning & worry.

We have a palm like this one, about half the size, and we never cover it when it freezes. It's too large for us to cover. I just went outside to take a look at it after I viewed your photo and read your narrative...it looks alright for now but as you say, we'll just have to wait and see. My mother planted the palm when my parents bought this house and land in 1976 so like your neighbor's tree, mine has lived through all the freezes we've had the last 41 years. I had to smile when I first viewed your photo...I have that same double shepherd hook and almost the same type of feeders on the hooks. :-)

@gaylewood In Virginia several Christmases ago the Hilton wrapped the trunks right up to the fronds with red or green plastic wrap. They said that’s all you had to do! You haven’t had our temps have you? Hopefully your palm will be fine, after all it’s 41 years old! Our neighbor’s is maybe 7 years old. We’ve watched it grow from just peeking over their fence to the beauty it is today.

@louannwarren I love the idea of wrapping the trunk right up to the fronds with red and green plastic wrap! I think I'll do that next year before Christmas. We've had some lower than usual temps these last two weeks but I think your temps are almost always lower than ours.

Should be okay. Palm trees grow up in SC.

Best of luck to the tree.

I hear Texas palms are tough. Should be just fine. Now the human residents, that's another issue....;)

Very nice shot

It boggles my mind that so many areas of our country are dealing with these extremely cold temperatures! I hope the palm survives. It'd be a shame if it died due to someone's carelessness.

Wonderful texture!
