The Denton County Courthouse was built in 1845, the architecture style is “Romanesque”, pretty grand really for a small farming community. This courthouse now has a few county government departments still on site, the courts have moved to a very plain limestone block building, something I just don’t understand. If you have this grand building, how can you not stay and modernize the interior?
Such a beautiful old building. I think there are many such grand buildings from that era. I agree - what a shame not to use this fine building. I like your POV, Lou Ann!
I'm of the same mind as you! I would far rather live and work in an old, charming building and work on the interior if necessary! Such a pretty and very sturdy building...why use it only half way?
I appreciate every one of your comments, this is such a great building and I could tell you all agree with me about it’s mis-use. It has taken a very long time, but Dallas has a stout historic preservation board now and because of them the historical jewel, the Dallas County Courthouse, is now a magnificent Dallas History Museum. I would hope that Denton could learn the value of historic preservation before it’s too late.
Yes a very grand building that deserves to be preserved. Here's hoping they find a way to repurpose it and carry on rather than to let it go by the wayside. Nice shot.
