The Chickasaw Nation celebrates the Chinese New Year of the Earth Dog
We visited Winstar Casino in Oklahoma a few days ago (Jerry won!). When we entered the main entrance it was decorated for the Chinese New Year with eye-popping decorations! The Chickasaw Indians opened a bingo hall on their land in 1991, it has evolved into a huge complex with star entertainment every weekend, two golf courses, hotels and a spa. It’s not far from our home, just over the Oklahoma border; in fact 90% of the cars in the parking lot have Texas license plates. Texans like to say they made it what it is today, that’s probably true.
Gosh ... love the clashing colours here ... have been teaching Chinese New Year this week to my little class .... lovely to see them embracing new cultures :)
Guess the Chickasaw knew where to build this! Didn't realize it was the biggest in Oklahoma - there are several within driving distance of western Arkansas. Your shot is so colorful - have a Chinese granddaughter and we use to celebrate Chinese New Years while she was growing up.
Funny story. Interesting photo. REminds me of the last time I saw a tree like that. It was in a restaurant on the beach in Tel Aviv, Israel. It's a long way to the Chickasaw nation from there.
Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments! This display had dragons flying on the ceiling along with those red Chinese lanterns, you felt like you were walking into a party, which I’m sure was the whole point.
Holy Moly! Festive R Us!!! That really takes you away from "daily life" for a few hours, and what fun to go home with some winnings as well! Way to go, Jerry!
That would have been a wonderful entrance, the colour of the lights is gorgeous. Jerry must have been very happy that he won, hope he bought you dinner with his winnings
