This Long Leaf Pine is in a new development of townhomes not far from where the ducks swim. It was tagged with the number 615, which I took as ominous, two other Long Pines there had the same tag. They are all struggling to survive, this time last year there was a little cluster of them on nice vacant land. Today the remaining trees are completely surrounded by concrete curbs and streets. I’m pretty sure those tags are for the tree cutters, to identify the ones that just can’t stay where they are in the development.
Fabulous perspective and great textures. That seems to be the way it goes all over the world. Trees are being felled to make place for more developments. I wonder where all the people are coming from, and where they used to live before!
@ludwigsdiana I feel the same way. So many people are moving to Texas, we are in the midst of a huge population explosion, people are coming from other states to work here. We have many businesses and more all the time because of the population increase. It’s a vicious cycle. @beryl Thank you, Beryl!
@ziggy77@radiogirl@pcoulson@carolmw@carole_sandford@koalagardens@gijsje@pistache@365karly1 Thank you all for your wonderful comments! The pines had sparse limbs really, which I attribute to them trying to survive in the harsh construction environment they’ve had for a while. @365karly1 Texas’ population is growing so fast the cities can’t build housing fast enough. We do have state parks and protected forests and national parks and preserves, so at least we have some places to visit that are full of natural beauty. @ziggy77 Thank you so much for your fav, Jo!
Neat perspective to show its height. A reminder that we're awfully lucky that at least some areas have been protected - not to be encroached on by developers - otherwise it seems to be fair game on anything. I noticed this morning that the brush where the mockingbirds always waited each morning had all be clear-cut - happening everywhere around here and sure makes me sad.
Great picture, but sad story. I spotted trees with numbers too. The numbers have been there for at least 3 months, so I keep my fingers crossed that our numbers have another purpose than identification to be cut, as they are in a park.
